Pope Benedict XVI left for a visit to Great Britain. He arrived at Edinburgh Airport on 16 Sept 2010.<\/p>\n<p>In the honour of his visit, the American\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.albanach.org\/\">Matthew Newsome<\/a>, director of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottishtartans.org\/\">Scottish Tartan Museum<\/a>, Franklin, North Carolina, designed an exclusive\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tartan\">tartan<\/a>\u00a0for him. The dedication of a special tartan to a person other than a Scotsman is a great honour.<\/p>\n<p>The tartan was weaved by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.inglesbuchan.com\/\">Ingles Buchan<\/a>\u00a0Mercat Building, 26 Gallowgate, Glasgow, G1 5AB, Scotland, United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"dt-pswp-item\" href=\"http:\/\/philippi-collection.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Tartan2.png\" data-dt-img-description=\"\" data-large_image_width=\"582\" data-large_image_height=\"437\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1924\" src=\"http:\/\/philippi-collection.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Tartan2-300x225.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/philippi-collection.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Tartan2-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/philippi-collection.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Tartan2.png 582w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the tartan, a white line on a blue field takes in Scotland&#8217;s national colors, while the green reflects the color of lichens on the stones of Whithorn in Galloway where St Ninian &#8212; Scotland&#8217;s first saint &#8212; landed to bring the Gospel to the country over 1,600 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>A white line with two red lines reflect the colors of the crest of England&#8217;s Cardinal Newman, due to be beatified by<br \/>\nPope Benedict XVI\u00a0on September 19, 2010 in London, while a yellow line with the white mark the colors of the Vatican.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of weaving, each white line on the green contains exactly eight threads, one for each Catholic diocese in Scotland.
